In this episode, Archbridge Institute Director of Programs Ben Wilterdink talks with Joe Coletti. Until recently rejoining North Carolina’s state government, Joe was a Senior Fellow at the John Locke Foundation—a North Carolina based policy research organization—where he examined fiscal and tax policy. He previously headed the North Carolina Government Efficiency and Reform initiative within the Office of State Budget and Management and has spent his career improving operations and strategies at for-profit, nonprofit, and government entities. Joe discusses his recent report on thriving in North Carolina, why it is so important to sincerely listen to the concerns of the people safety net policies are designed to help, and how relationships and local communities are best positioned to solve problems in the most meaningful way. Additionally, Ben and Joe talk about the limits of public policy and how to rebuild the non-governmental institutions of civil society after years of being crowded out by ever expanding government programs.
